My fiancee's dad ran into the not-using-it-enough problem this week buying us an engagement present: got to the register and it didn't go through, cashier calls the service and the card was canceled. Hadn't used it in over a year and had no balance.

YES, use them all from time to time. canceling(or being canceled) affects credit negatively. just buy gas or something you know can be paid quickly. and i don't pay to be a card holder either.
