It looks like a fuzzy grub but more likely the second bug down in this pest site -"appears to be a caterpillar in the family Arctiidae (tiger moths)"

That's a cool site JanGeo. Been looking at it for about an hour now. Now I'm also creeped out looking at all those bugs even tho we don't really have many here in the Desert.

Nice site! On the same page, #333 is probably it. The user's description matches and the conditions described by the expert match. He says they infest wool carpets and dry foods. The carpet may be wool, and there's an ancient bag of dry dog food that I was sure is the culprit because at least half of them are right near it and the rest are on the stairs that it is near. I checked it and didn't see a bunch of them under/in it but I think I just need to get rid of it...that stupid dog's never going to eat it either way.
