My wife's registration cost went up significantly too.

They have to bring in some revenue somewhere and it's not very visible when they do it there.

Yup. I have to register her if I'm going to drive her crazy on public roads.

But...they keep telling me that the cost of living isn't going up!

I don't write them checks. Cheap registration and insurance costs are the primary reason I can afford to keep cars that I don't drive often. Heck. We have a 1 ton van that goes less than 500 miles a year! Cheap registration & insurance allows us to have that vehicle, but own others so we are not constantly wasting gas driving it when a 1 ton vehicle is not needed.

Virginia;

Car registration $25 per year, county tag is $20 I think. Property taxes on the VX is like $12 a year.

Property (house) taxes .0685 per hundred. Thats 1/10 of what it is in some places.

Gas here is some of the cheapest in the country, was 2.369 a week ago at Wally World.

State budget is required to be balanced by state constitution.

Lots of govt jobs to keep the economy going better than most places.

Lots of military retire in this area due to lower costs of living, but there is a state income tax that maxes at 6% if memory serves me right.

Been pretty cold here lately, but low 20s is usually the worst, much better than some places I have been and read about.

In many areas seniors get property tax exemptions on the house after residing there for a certain number of years.

regards
Gary
