TCO Boxster S
I've sadly just sold the Boxster S after roughly 2.5 years of enjoyable ownership. I can now calculate my TCO or total cost of ownership for those who didn't know. I only covered 5362 miles, so my cost per mile will be high as I carried out a few repairs etc. Here's my breakdown:
Purchase cost: £9800
Fuel cost: £1327
Servicing and MOT tests £293
Tyres: £256 + £192
Springs £266 + £282
Drop bar link £66
Tracking: £50
Road tax: £835
Insurance: £284 + £311 + £223
Total = £14185
Sold for £12750 so my TCO was £1435.
For driving and maintaing such a high performance car, and an older one at that, I think £1435 is a very low cost. If you take away fuel, insurance and road tax, as you have to have these by law to use a vehicle on public roads anyway, then I'm actually in profit. I was lucky the car is it that age where it had started to appreciate in value, maybe I could have got more as the new buyer didn't even ask for a penny off. But I'm more than happy with a £3000 purchase profit. I'm going to look for another similar performance car now, as the appreciation more than covers the running costs so long as you keep the miles off.
