Just saw what was likely a nasty accident on the West bound I-10. I'm guessing at least six fire trucks, who knows how many more emergency vehicles, and a helicopter (idling?) across all four lanes. I know many have said they don't feel safe going 55mph, but KE and braking distance goes according to speed squared. A small 20mph increase from 55mph will double the KE and braking distance... Which would be o.k. if people increased the distance between each other proportionally, but they don't IME. They end up in clumps with greater density. Speed alone doesn't kill, but most people don't give each other enough room, and on today's relatively crowded highways, it's kinda hard to do. Like I said, stay safe.
