I was behind a dump truck last week that was leaving a 1/2 mile long trail of really thick, black smoke. I don't think I was ever happier to finally pass someone.

I can't remember ever thinking it looked neat.

Yeah, I never thought it was cool. I always saw it as a lack of maintenance. When I was the maintenance officer at the rescue squad, I would send a vehicle in for service if it started smoking. In most instances, a new fuel filter solved the problem.

makes me wonder if he was not using ultra low sulfur diesel. and is that still possible?
