ODB3 Coming?

A mechanic said this about ODB3:

"I remember the OBD lectures in class early this year that turned into full blown war and debate.

OBD3 could report your speed to the insurance company, and police dept.

It would be able to report ANY vehicle malfunctions and if you don't repair them, you get ticketed or whatever."

Black boxes are popular with young drivers here, and they work too. They report time of day, location and speed to the insurance company. My friends dad got a call a few years ago telling him his son is travelling at 93 MPH, they caught him again and cancelled his insurance. It was quite a feat given that the car was a 25 year old VW POLO with a 1.0 litre engine!

93mph with a 1.0 liter engine? WOW!

With my 70hp, 1.5 liter, 2,000lb Civic, I was driving through Montana, a US state.

I was camping, so the hatchback was fully load and traveling with a passenger.

In a state with NO speed limits, disappointedly, the fastest I could go was 85mph.
