nitrous - way off topic

well i'm chipping this kids ecu
and he has a full dry nitrous setup
i know nothing (relatively) about nitrous
when i bought my project car last year it came with a setup...
the first thing i did was sell it
scares the } out of me

so i'm looking for some help to get him set up
i think a few of you have some experience
i think a small part of it will be what i can actually do on his ecu...
most of it seems to be getting the proper fuel compensation when he decides to hit that button
so i'm looking for an easy way to get it in there at a safe level...

he has a p&p d15 head and stock internals
d15b2 block, i'm selling him an a6 cam and valvesprings
i think it will drop in there...
he seems smart enough not to do anything too crazy
i'll find out more about his setup in the next few days

any suggestions are welcome
i would prefer some private messaging
i dont particularly think this is the place
but ok

it's not way off topic. This

it's not way off topic. This is off topic.

here how it goes, from worse to best

dry setup
wet setup
direct port

With a dry setup you're injecting just nitrous so you have to bump up the fuel pressure to the cylenders or it will run too lean. Make the ECU run much richer when the dry setup is spraying. Of course with a dry shot everything is more complicated so you have to run less nitrous to keep the engine together. With a wet shot you can run a bigger shot but you don't have to bump up the fuel unless the shot is too big for the fuel system to handle. With a direct port system every runner gets the same amount of fuel so you can run a little more nitrous because one of the cylenders won't be going lean like with a wet shot.

here is a comparison for my motor what a max you can run on stock internals... I have a 2.4L

dry shot 50-65 shot
wet shot 75 shot
direct port 100 shot but the a/f needs to be tuned very good.

The main priority with a dry shot is add the right amount of fuel when he squeezes and make sure the a/f is around 12.5:1

i guess his zex kit has

i guess his zex kit has another solenoid for fuel
i dont understand how this isn't considered a wet kit
i guess its because they dont 'mix' before the spray
but whatever
i guess this shouldn't be too hard...
the biggest problem i see is that i dont want to be in the car
lol

nitrous express is always on

nitrous express is always on top of their game. Some of the fastest cars have NX. Zex is still a dry kit because nitrous doesn't mix with fuel in the nozzle. I bet if he used a NX kit he would of seen better results plus it would of been a lot easier to work it.

If he doesn't know when to use nitrous I wouldn't be in the same car. When I first started using 75 shot it was weak as hell. After I got a bottle heater I couldn't stop wheel spin till 3rd at the track. it takes some time getting used to. If I had a header i would of probably see another 25-30wph. On 75 shots with header same motors produce 230+ft of tq. After 200 you really got to watch the auto tranny.

alright...update... looking

alright...update...
looking for input

he doesn't have fuel compensation
so we are thinking of buying a dual port nozzle and tapping the fuel line...
then just putting a brass valve/regulator on that fuel line and an electric solenoid...
basically mimic the nx kit...if not use nx parts...

then wire it all in to the nitrous button

i'm using turboedit for his obd0 maps...
and i can put 'vtec' (yes for obd0) on his a/c switch
so if i wire it that into the nitrous switch as well
i can then possibly have some kind of altered timing for 'vtec'
i'm not sure this will work 100%

any input...i thought there were more nitrous abusers here...
alright
peace...and sorry for the lame thread...

and just for the record
I HATE NITROUS !!!

i might have to create some kind of battery operated dummy to do the tuning while i wait at my house...
lol

i would tell him to get a window switch. If he accidently sprays in the wrong rpm his engine is toast.

I'd use nx parts, it's cheaper to buy them as a whole unit than to buy parts separate.
The parts I'd buy are nx solenoids and nx nozzle.

do window switches have a

do window switches have a master override...
or do you see a way to possibly enable a master override...?

like if he wants to floor it off the line without nitrous/xtra fuel

i can also enable the 'vtec' mode based on tps
but i see that as the most dangerous method
as when he is in nitrous mode and lets off on the throttle for any reason...
his engine would be toast...

i feel i'm real close to a good safe solution for him for under $100
his zex kit has a computer controller
basically a master switch and a nitrous button
it also will cut nitrous if the engine is lacking fuel
so you cant really burn out the motor...
but the goal here isn't to hit the nitrous button for nothing to happen
we need to add fuel...and we need to do it right

i'm all about the nx parts...i'm sure something will come up on ebay...
the kid is a little young....it showed today when he came to pick up the ecu and got a ticket on the way (about a 20-25 minute drive)...
doh...
but hey...i cant complain...its paying some bills...
so his plans are set back a week or so...

humdee dum

window switch will let him

window switch will let him spray the nitrous in any rpm he wants. So if he leaves his nitrous on by accident and his window switch is configured to spray 3500-redline then he won't hit nitrous unless he is flooring and hits 3500rpm

yeah well think about that

yeah well think about that in a timeline:

he forgets nitrous is active
he floors it to say 4000-5000rpm
he levels off an realizes the car is stil accelerating
oh **** nitrous is active
he has now let off the gas and a solid shot has left the bottle
fuel enrichment has ended...tps is out and rpms have dropped...
possibly throws it in neutral...possibly rpms are running away in a fury to redline...
BOOM
