new epa or old epa in the garage?>

so what is everyone using for the epa ratings in their cars garage? the old or the new?

i am using the old for everything, but now i wonder if i should change it to the new since the new says that the fit gets 34mpg which is way under what i get with mixed driving and i use wot a lot more than a lot of people on here...

your thoughts?

I'm using the new ones... they're a bit more "realistic" for average conditions and average drivers.

When we're doing some (basic) hypermiling, we're essentially driving under conditions closer to those that the old EPA estimates were created at, right? I think using the OLD number might give you a general baseline as to how your driving is improving mpg against your car's design.

When using the NEW estimates (note that you're still driving the same car... only the number has changed), i think you get a better picture of how your driving habits compare to the population at large.

Of course, some factors in the old estimates were environmental and we have not ocntrol over them. so it really comes down to...

using the new estimates makes it easier to get the "Hypermiler" title on your tag!

I think most people here are using the new, the same question was asked and everybody reported using the new. I do.

Well, my car was built before the EPA even existed...so I'm just going by what I got in my last Mustang (a '68 hardtop, about ~250lbs lighter than my convertible) and what others with Mustangs similar in specs to mine are getting...
