Meet Mrs. Recluse, my new friend

I named her Mrs. Recluse. After all, she is a brown recluse.

Here she is, just before I picked her up.

Isn't she gourgeous? She later started crawling up my arm.

She's just chillin' on my arm in this one:

She crawls down my arm back to my hand:

Chillin' around on my hand. She's cool with it.

Now she's on my finger.

And a kiss, before I calmly carry her upstairs and outside. I can't have her biting me in my sleep now, can I?

I took her outside. Hope no one eats her, she was cool. Kiddies, DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME.

Google image search 'brown recluse bite' if you wish to know what these things can do. The results are never pretty. These are dangerous. She was, however, very cute.

Man you talk about spiders - my friend with the Prius is deathly afraid of them and they were all all over her yard when I was washing a rug on the lawn this weekend. There are some really fat ones on her house and in the garage the size of my thumb. Saw one last year that looked like a small brown horn toad frog.

Proabably wolf spiders. Unlike Mrs. Recluse(Bless her little heart!), they are virtually harmless.

virtually harmless unless you are paralized with fear when you see one as she is . . . and they love her house for some reason - plus the ants she has are all over the place - could be the poor disposal of leftover food . . . ants LOVE pizza! I took one big one out of the garage about 20 feet last year on a board and it ran back into the garage dragging the 2x4 with it! . . . just kidding but it made a bee line for the garage - like how did it know where to go??

I lived in a house in Kansas for a year that was filled with those. That one of yours looks like it has shorter/fatter legs and body than most I remember. I usually squashed 'em with my thumb. When I travelled to Germany and opened a suite case, one crawled out. It was then that someone told me what it was.

Most often fear of spiders is irrational. Even these brown recluses are timid and non-aggressive. They only attack when provoked. When you get scared, that often provokes them.
