The lady in the article is comparing trading in her used SUV for a Brand New car. If she traded in her 2007 SUV with a 2007 car, it might make sense financially.

If you read the conclusion of the article, it says she plans on getting a car that is off lease sometime this fall. I don't know why she needs to wait until fall for this but I think the summary of the article is that don't pay up for a new car just to double your fuel economy. Also I'd find it hard to believe that one could be averaging 15mpg in a suburban but only get 30mpg in a compact car..

suburbans arent as bad as people think, yes its crappy but not like the 80's suburbans where double digits was lucky haha
