Good to see the coverage. They said the usual things about how some driving methods may be illegal or dangerous.

That they did...

I am glad, however, that they included the blurb about FE gadgets. That's just some critical thinking stuff that most people don't think about.

I think that was a well done and upbeat story. It covered what the GS site and hypermiling are about w/o getting caught up in the usual fear sensationalism. Of course some caveats have to be expected to warn the unitiated against doing something unnecessarily risky.

In fact, maybe the prospect of taking risks and 'bending-laws' represents a percieved hurdle that turn many people off. Maybe many would try it but as soon as they hear that they'd have to do something they're not entirely comfortable with, they bail. You know that the petro lobby will be trying to twist that knife until someone can refute such a move by preempting the BS.

Is there a compiled and standardized set of rules for optimizing FE yet keeping everything relatively safe (less to focus how folks may push that envelope, but more to establish a clear baseline for mods and techniques that will improve FE for most w/o crossing-the-line)?

I'm working on one, a "newbie hypermiling guide" of sorts. Mention everything but concentrate on the easy and the things average folks can do.

That's great! I'm concerned about the quickly building hype regarding hypermiling. An established negative stigma might keep it in the shadows.
