I have a shirt that list all the things not to say to a cop. Most of them are so funny that when people read it they bust out laughing. I would be in deep **** if I get pulled over while wearing it.

OMG, Texas

OMG, Texas is the WORST. In downtown Ft. Worth, there was an accident at an intersection near the place I wanted to pick up lunch. Not knowing the area well, I got around the intersection picked up lunch, and attempted to make it back to my work site.

Ft. Worth is a series of One-Way streets. I was desperately trying to avoid the accident scene and get back onto that street. I headed down a side street, looked both ways, and turned left. I got about 100-yards before I realized, I was going the wrong way on the one-way (no traffic coming, just saw signs, all white dashes, and cars parked the same direction). This motorcycle cop comes flying up after I pulled over and pointed demandingly to stop the car. I was polite, and he was frankly a jerk. He didn't cut me any slack for being from out-of-town on business and made a simple error that was quickly corrected.

I had to go before a Judge and plead "deferred adjudication", so if I didn't get a ticket in Texas after 90-days, it would drop-off. So, being there every week, I had to drive conservatively for the next month. Still $100 in court costs

My favorite part. Officer: "So what year is the car"; RH77: "Umm, I don't know, it's a rental...so 2006?"

go to court, you have the option to chalange any ticket you are given, a friend of mine got a ticket for a critical mass bike ride, once it got dark everyone without a bike light got a ticket (as a form of harasment), they explaned their side of why they were there, and what they were doing, and out of the 20 some people who got tickets, they got out of paying theirs because they felt that the rule should be fallowed.
so do people who get an average of 100mpg speed? (take a photo of your dash readout) were there other people who were speeding who did not get tickets? (they picked you out, and ignored people who were passing you) and last, if the cop who gave you the ticket doesn't show up in court to voice their side, then the ticket is almost alwas droped, but the point is, if you don't think it was fare, say so, and you have a good chance of getting out of the ticket.

I'm just going to go to traffic school and pay the ticket. No points added to my license. The sheriffs dept hasn't heard the last of me though - they're going to learn to hate me since I'm about to make them start doing their job.

Today I was doing 45 in a 45 zone in my kid's Escort. A herd of cars passed me doing about 60, mixed in with the pack - a highway patrol. 2 miles down the road I was in the 55 zone - doing 55 when someone passes me like I'm standing still. I haven't clue how fast they were going but sure enough there was a Deputy Sheriff in the oncoming lane all by his lonesome. I flashed my lights just for the heck of it when the car got to my rear quarter so the cop would see the car passing me going that fast. Sheriff didn't bat an eye as he was obviously on his way to get donuts.

I'm done whining to you guys about it. Thanks for the shoulders to cry on.

Take a camera with you while driving and getting passed film it and bring it to coart with you to show the judge. I got passed in a school zone on a double yellow line and I was going the limit AND was shooting a video with my digital camera at the time out the driver side window. Would have given it to a cop if the guy had gotten stopped down the street.

look the bottom line is that you got what you deserved and it sucks. might i recommend 3 choices of action:

1. make a move into politics to raise speed limits since all cars are now safe enough for higher speeds. (particularly on the highways)

2. get a radar detector and dont get caught again.

3. take it to court, appologize sincerely to the prosecutor and the officer and maybe they will cut you a break. then never ever speed again.

i have tried #3 and moved up the chain to #2 after getting a ticket for going 67 in a 55 passing a car going 50 on a 2 lane road. i moved to #2 because there was no lesson to be learned and i would definitely do it again to be safe should the situation arise.

if i had more interest in the legal system or in politics i would advance to #1 but that wont happen unless i decide for a major career shift.

I'm not going to fight it, I was wrong. As far as getting these cops to start doing their job, that's in the works.

I've got a friend who has been mayor of a local town since the 50's and he's been steady prodding me to get into "the business" but I don't think it is for me. He is on his final term right now and feels I have a decent background for it but I know I don't. Actually I have to wait until I retire from my current job in 3 years before I can start something new. We'll see what lies ahead.....

I always wanted to be a police man.
You get to carry guns , get involved in drug busts , mingle with the underworld of criminal gangs , line ups , shoot outs , the lot.

On second thoughts , I might just become a rap star instead , all of the above , but higher pay.
