Engine Off Coasting; 10min engine on; 14min coasting

Used a chess clock to keep track of my 24 minute travel time.

14 minutes (58%) was Engine Off Coasting (EOC).

The 10 minutes of engine running time was mostly spent idling at stoplights. Shutting off the engine at red lights is hard on the battery because of so many relatively back-to-back engine restarts.

For me EOCing so aggressively, what little time the engine does run isn't long enough to sufficiently recharge the battery.

NOTE: I find EOC to be a lot easier with my Civic with it's mechanical odometer. My other car has a electrically powered odometer, so when you turn off the engine you need to turn the key back to Accessory Mode, otherwise you don't get credit on the odometer for the coasting distance.

I'm still not sure about your crazy methods Doug, you could claim your car is a Hybrid now, using a mix of gas and gravity lol.

P.S. The courtesy car I have now has a key and an ignition, seems so old fashioned now having to find the slit and turn it to start the engine! How things have changed in recent years.

You should always turn the key back to 'on' when EOCing. No telling what electrical system is always powered or not.
