Tesla has hundreds of charging stations in the west Coast from Mexico to Northern B.C that fast charge their cars. I have been in a coffee shop and watched an owner plug in order his coffee and drive away minutes later. Once fast charging stations are every where electric vehicles will be the way to go.

Does any one know how far Tesla's impact is out East??

In addition to building cutting edge cars, the cost of site locating, negotiating the purchase/lease of each site, and then installing each of the Tesla charging stations is no small task.

Lots of the stations are at hotels and a good advertising feature and many more are located in small malls that feature lots of restaurants and coffee shops. I think for that reason having a couple of parking paces for Tesla charging is for everyone' benefit. Build it and they will come. I see one or more Teslas every day both local and from mainly Washington State and California. Electricity here is just a little over .06 cents KW so charging at home is relatively cheap.

I'm too lazy to look... Are non-Tesla cars allowed to use the Tesla chargers?

I think it has to be a Tesla. When the car pulls up to the charger (the car finds them all) the charger knows a Tesla is there and allows it to charge for free at a high rate. Don't think other cars can even use a low charging rate. But dozens of free chargers located all around B.C., but not fast chargers.

Areas of the Midwest seem to be the only spots Tesla doesn't have well covered.

The Tesla chargers at hotels aren't Superchargers; just home chargers. Neither will work with other plug ins; Tesla has their own standard with a different plug. A Tesla comes with an adapter to use public chargers, plus one for 15 amp outlets, and another for the 50amp RV outlets.

Maybe some locations have overnight chargers for the Tesla as well. The parking stalls are labelled for Tesla parking the same as a disabled spot.

I read that once the Model 3 comes out there will be so much demand that the chargers may no longer be free to use.
