Cats Can't Drive! Or Can They . .

So at 9:30pm this evening, we get a call from our neighbor across the street. She says that the lights are flashing on the Escort. Immediately I'm thinking either there is some serious electrical issue with the car or the kids got into it a played around, leaving the lights on.

So I go outside to check it out and find our cat sitting in the driver seat of the locked car with the hazard lights turned on. As I open the door, she remains sitting there and just looks at me as if I am invading HER space and lets out a quiet meow. I had to shoe her out of the seat! Our best guess is that she had been in there for at least a couple of hours before turning on the hazards, but I can't help thinking that maybe she was just waiting for me to give her the keys . .

I was outside working on a bicycle yesterday when my wife came out with one of the cats and put him on the bicycle. He didn't try to operate any of the controls...

Last time I locked a cat in the car, he didn't turn on the flashers, he just peed on the seat. That was a year ago, I'm still trying to get the last of the smell out...

EEEWWWWW. Was that the Geo or the Caddy? I can't imagine what cat urine would do to leather seats.

It was the Geo. Just after I got it. Actually, two seats have been nailed...left the window down one night...won't make that mistake again! It soaks right into the foam padding. Drowned it with soap and water and got a lot out, but would get that smell back every so often. Have had some success with some stuff I got from PetSmart...it has some enzymes to attack the odor.

Had it been the Cad, it would probably be the end of the leather...the front seats are pretty cracked and worn anyway, so I have been thinking about finding some vinyl replacements...pee wouldn't touch that!

Tanning leather used to be done with urine:

Anyway, cat urine is probably one of the toughest, longest-lasting smells in the universe. If a cat peed on my cloth seats I'd seriously consider just replacing them.

If I'm not mistaken, it sometimes still is. I just don't think with cat urine.
