20 mph limit.

I see that the Welsh government has voted to introduce a 20 mph limit in all built-up areas throughout the country. Everywhere that is presently a 30 mph limit will become 20. Just like they are doing here in Edinburgh and in most new build estates around here.

Stupid idea, when has a speed limit ever stopped anyone speeding? At 30 MPH I can be in 6th gear, at 20, I need to be in 3rd. More revs, more fuel, more cost, more air pollution, more respiratory disease, more death. Who comes up with these stupid ideas?...

That would be really tough, at least for most people around here. We have 20mph limit in school zones but otherwise the lowest speed limits are 25mph in neighborhoods and 30mph in town. And most people drive several mph above either one.

Edinburgh is very hot on enforcement with fixed and mobile cameras. The only thing I find an issue with is the signage. In a busy city, the limit signs are easily missed and the large 20 signs painted on the road are fading and easily missed in close following traffic.
