above: according to a toronto star article this weekend, mitsubishi may once again team up with chrysler to offer the colt in north america. no firm decision ... yet ... and not sure if it would be for the entire north american market, or just canada.

Any news on the lupo/polo in canada? I see that as the big step for getting it in the US. Once people buy it up there some news or paper will get word of it's thift and good gas mileage and pick up the story and US people will be jealous as hell.

Isn't a swift the same thing as an aveo? Or is the 2007 different?

Crysler and Chevy are owned by different people, as I remember, so the swift and aveo are probably different.

right... the swift pictured above is different from the aveo.

the swift/aveo/geo story:

the last batch of subcompact cars that gm sold up until 2001 were based on a suzuki design and built both in japan and ontario for the north american market. in the us, they were the suzuki swift, geo metro, and chevy metro. in canada we had those and also the pontiac firefly clone.

the aveo is a daewoo car, and i believe it's only sold in the US as a chevy aveo. we have the chevy aveo in canada and also a clone called the pontiac wave. to confuse matters, suzuki canada sells a model called the swift+, which is also the daewoo car. i assume suzuki canada is going to drop the daewoo model when its own swift arrives.
