Really GasSavers.org? Really?

This is what happened to me thanks to gassavers.org selling my e-mail, along with yours, I bet. Un/fortunately this is a good forum where I intend to return so here is what I suggest...If you don't want your e-mail account to be bombarded with this sort of crap you should switch your registration e-mail frequently so it will be outdated often and the people they sell it to will only find a dead end:

I can tell you, as an administrator on this site, we do not sell email addresses. What makes you think they got your address from us?

Re: Really GasSavers.org? Really?

Yeah, I see nothing in there to even imply that it came from here, but I did just skim the email. Why not bold the area (or change the font color) of the part that makes you think it was from here.

Re: Really GasSavers.org? Really?

I use a different address for every website I ever put an email address into. I use services like spamgourmet.com that allow me to create disposable (or permanent) addresses on the fly. I did when I first signed up here.

Doing so allows me to be sure of what site sold/failed to secure my data. I can assure you that as long as I've been a member, I have not received any spam to the address I used.

I recommend switching to unique disposable addresses. It works very well.

One thing is for sure, if we did sell our list, we'd have enough money to make the improvements to the site I'd like to do.

LOL, good point.

I'd never vote yes on that proposal, and I'm sure it would never come up anyway. If anything ever happened it would have to be a security breach. This place is pretty tight.

Re: Really GasSavers.org? Really?

I just checked the control panel log. The last time a mailing list was generated was 03:20AM, 7th Oct 2006, about 2 years before you had joined the site. It is impossible for any list that was generated from this site's users to have contained your email address.

I did the same. That e-mail was linked to this site and no, I never received anything like that before from this site or related to this site/e-mail.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I recycled the e-mail and forgot to make a note of it (pretty unlikely but possible), in which case I hope you'll accept my apology. Just to be on the safe side I switched to a different e-mail.

If you get any more, be sure to let us know. We may want the full headers from the email so we can try to find out what happened.
