Hagerty's festival

of the pedestrian and mundane. Sounds like a cool show.

Sounds like my kinda show,I usually opt for "different" and quirky vehicles. I find life's too short to own the same car as everybody else. I bet more than half my cars would be welcomed to such a show if I still had them of course.

We have a great show fairly close to me. Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club are holding the 47th Scottish Transport Extravaganza in the grounds of Glamis Castle over the weekend of 8th & 9th July. These are some of the photographs I took the year I went.

I like those, especially the MG and the Vauxhall. I'd like those shows. The latest models from Unobtainable Motors are really cool but it's nice to sometimes see just a whole lot of stuff one might be able to have too.

The Vauxhall, (not that particular car) was the one I learned to drive in. Three-speed manual, column change. The handbrake was between the driver's door and the seat.

I never drove a column shift but remember my older cousins driving them. I guess some people think/act like they're some alien impossible thing. I can't figure that out. Manual shift is manual shift regardless of where the shifter is and it's as simple as could be.

My driving history started 3-speed column, 3-speed column, 3 on the floor then a 4-speed column. I had been driving for about 10 years before I ever had 4 on the floor.

My first car was an RX-3 with a 3spd automatic. Since then I've had far too many vehicles with most being automatic.

I love automatics. My first was a 3 spd, then 4 and finally 5 (all conventional hydraulic transmissions). My brother's BMW 320D has a 7 spd. I don't fancy a CVT transmission and I wouldn't touch a DSG/DCT with a barge pole

I'm kind of lazy so I like automatics also. Never had a Powerglide or other 2spd. I've had 3spd, 4spd and 6spd and now my Escape has an 8spd. I don't know if I ever had a 5spd automatic or not and definitely not a 7spd. I've never had DSG/DCT either but if I had my mind made up on a car that was that or stick I'd probably give it a go.
