"Crackpot" applause widget (clencher, you listening?)

If *I* were GS overlord and supreme programmer...

I think I'd implement a widget that lets users identify threads/posts they think contain excessive crackpot thinking/BS.

Sort of like an audience applause meter.

The explicit goal would be to discourage crazy talk, and encourage critical thinking, basic technical understanding & acknowledgement of the experimental method. Keep people on their toes when touting the results of the latest mod, etc.

Lots of opportunity for abuse of such a widget, but it'd be interesting to hash it out.

There's an existing 1- to 5-Star rating system in place for threads...

It could be re-invented as a "BS-O-Meter" -- 1-Star and it's going nowhere, just chock full of the crock. 5-Stars = Solid. Me thinks it's an average-based vote...hmmm.

Just have Matt make these images available from a pull down menu for experiments.

This is a good experiment. Good protocol , used FE metering equipment, recorded conditions, done on the same day.

Good idea needs further testing with better protocol, FE instrumentation or more data.


Urban legend. Happy it works for you but to many variables, bad protocol, no data or science to back the results.
