What you buy when you buy a new car:
- Perceived Depenability
- Availability of new, dependable replacement parts from authorized dealers
- A car that is better handling and more comfortable because nothing has worn out yet
- A warrenty to cover you if something breaks
- People who are trained to service the car if it breaks
- And finally, recourse if things don't go right.
You don't buy new cars...neither do I. My father only bought one in his life (a '73 Mazda RX2-probably not the best choice for one's only new car). You are capable and willing to do your own car work. So am I. But most people are neither, and have no inclination to become either. That's OK. I'm not the greatest butcher, banker, barber, bartender or dentist. And have no inclination to become any of those.
