As someone who passed thier test in the early noughties, turbochargers had all ready been mainstream for a couple of decades, which meant similar power from smaller displacements. Big engines with small power just seemed odd to most of us. Emissions regs and high fuel prices scared the V8 away from most of Europe with a few exceptions. I'd consider one just for the sound though...

I had a few V8's early on. I wouldn't turn one down now if someone was buying my fuel.

Fuel is still cheaper than any other human consumed fluid in the US is it not? Treat yourself before noise and emission standards destroy them all!

Fuel is much more affordable than over there but I'd hate to double my consumption. And there aren't really any V8's that interest me, either too large or too small vehicles. But if I win the lotto...

More V-8 input from US left coast..............................

1st V-8 flathead Ford. No problems. Manual shift. Ran great.
Last V-8 Corvette 350/350. No problems. 4-speed. Fast.

In between: Oldsmobile 324 Hydra-matic. Ran Fine. Chev 283 3-speed overdrive (Unreliable).
Pontiac. Hurst 3-speed on floor. Low gear was non-synchro. Not my best car. Ford 312 Sunnier.
Fordomatic. Beautiful car (babe magnate in college). not fuel efficient.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it!
