How long does a 12V battery last? I've only ever had to replace a couple in the 15 cars I've had. My current one in the Peugeot is 7 years old now, but seems to be fine.

5 to 7 years is what a starter battery should last. With all the accessories on modern cars, it could be less.

No battery that I am aware of comes with more than a 5-year guarantee. I never replace a battery until it lets me down then I replace it immediately. My current battery is 6 years old but I hardly ever use the car now so I have a SMART charger and the car is connected to it unless I am driving it. I expect the battery to see me and the car out.

I figure anything beyond 5 years is borrowed time. My usage allows going until failure so it doesn't matter. If I had a more important or demanding vehicle requirement I'd act accordingly.
