I've owned no less than 4 cars with 3 pots. They are nicely balanced engines and have a unique sound. I did test drive an Alfa with the 5 cylinder diesel, it sounded sporty and encouraged you to rev it, but as it was a diesel, it was straining at 4000 rpm. I found it frustrating because of this.

I don't think I've had an "odd" car. I wouldn't rule it out, especially reading about the new Corolla. One of the 5 cylinder Audis would be fun too.
