Versus the Cobalt

Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed with the FE in this car. I rented the '07 4-door Automatic (LS) version and drove almost 90% highway miles (Green Bay -- Appleton -- Green Bay).

The exact stats aren't with me at the moment (look for an update in the review), but it averaged around 30 mpg. On a very similar trip, other vehicles such as the Cobalt, Spectra/Elantra, and Focus have a higher FE average closer to 34. I blame the heavier engine, tall gearing, and high stance.

I think they're going to keep it inexpensive to buy, under the Cobalt and Pontiac G5, but ironically not as efficient. I don't see it being the next Suzuki-clone for many reasons, displacement for one. It'll take a miracle to see anything less than 1.6L again...

You could have gotten 30 mpg in something as big as a Lacrosse... Sad that the Aveo didn't do better.

I still have a hard time with how much they weigh 2400 lbs.!!!!!!! Test weight of 2800. Being safe adds lots of weight! I don't think they have hardly any pick up with the smaller engines.
