I had an electrician who had an old Triumph Spitfire. He had to wear cycle clips to stop the bottoms of his jeans from getting wet in the standing water in the cockpit!
My brother had an early Triumph Herald. We brush-painted it. I loved driving it and loved working on it. The whole front end tipped forward, inner wings and everything.
I like old cars to look at, but as the article points out, they're just awful to drive. You don't realise how bad they are until you go from a modern car into a classic. Safety would be my main concern, having been in some bad accidents in the past, I'd be dead 3 times over if not for modern safety tech. Some people call it charm, I get where they're coming from, but I'll take a modern, safe, fast, fuel efficient, reliable car over a classic any day.
