The article left off the rpm points of those ratings.
No 500, nor Yaris, sold in the US, sold grab specs from the Corolla. The 151lb-ft peak for the 2L is at 4400rpm and the 169hp at 6600rpm. Those engine speeds are screaming rates in a daily drive. You have to push the power plant to see those values.
The 173lb-fot of torque for this EV is at zero. The 152bhp peak point isn't disclosed, but it is likely going to be lower than the ICE version. Push the ICE, and it gives better performance. Most drivers only get to do that on weekend drives. The EV is putting out more power at the conditions the driver sees everyday.
Bench hp is a useless metric for a car. Odds are the ICE Abrath loses more hp through its drive train than the EV one.
