Clutch brand name reviews

90's Honda nut oppinion.

Put an ACT stage 1 in my 97 Civic around $500
worked great, last for a long time under punishment.

Replaced it with an Excedy stage 1 for $125, and it was total crap.
The stock clutch with 90k on it worked far better than Excedy new.

Shopping for new clutch CRX 90, found at $225 XTD stage 2 on ebay.
Review on a Nissan fan site said it only lasted 10k, and was crap.

ACT is top in my book, but can't find a good price.

How is your manual transmission treating you?

I put an Exedy clutch for $80 shipped 60K miles ago in my 92 VX and it still functions adequately with no perceivable change in performance since install.

I don't do any high rev shifting (above 5K rpm) I so cannot comment on how long it would last under severe conditions. I haven't noticed a difference between the Exedy and the OEM clutch but my VX has over 200K miles now so I really don't remember what my first VX was like when new 17 years ago!

And, clutches are similar to brake pads in that they wear down faster with severe use. Front brakes only last 25K miles in the Buick the way my wife drives - it's an annual repair ritual (LOL).

You seem to have found a good clutch in the ACT stage 1. You'll probably need to install one despite the high $$$ if you want performance and long life.
Changing a clutch on a small FWD car sure is fun, ain't it?
