The Clio - obviously not in this guise - has always been considered a girls car, here in the UK.

Ignoring the sexist comments above, I wish I'd have bought a V6 about 10-15 years ago I remember thinking how crazy it was that they were £20k already, now you'll pay close to £40-50k for a decent one. Already a classic, you've gotta respect the French for making risky cars like this, the Germans are far too boring to even dream about such madness.

Not sexist at all. Renault aimed the car at women with the Papa and Nicole adverts. The young men of the time went for Pugs or Fiestas and the Clio sold in droves to lady drivers. Fact, not sexism.

Never considered Clio's girls cars personally, but then I'm a petrol head so only ever interested in the quickest versions of anything. Various performance versions of the Clio have earned huge respect from us enthusiasts over the years for thier agile and capable chassis'. Even an old 172 with the Cup chassis and over 100k on the clock is still highly sought after. I saw one for sale for £15k recently when you could get one for £2500 not long ago. Absolute track weapons that run rings around cars twice thier power band.

That is why I made it clear in my original post "not in this guise". The bog standard Clio was aimed at women drivers. As you said, you could get one for £2500 a while back because they were not considered all that sought after back then. They are now.
I resent the comment that I am sexist.

I don't know much about the variations but that all yellow in the article is one nice car.
