The Cruze might be even better than stated. My 2015 Audi Q5 3.0L Diesel is EPA Rated at 7.5L/100 km (=31.4 MPG US = 37.7 MPG Imp). In actual use, driving pure highway at a capped 60 mph, I can easily get 5.77 L/100 km (=40.7 MPG US = 49 MPG Imp) for a tank, and that's with climbing 2,000 feet in altitude over the course. (See my Fuelly log for Oct 22/15). I've done even better by slowing down to 50 mph.
That means I burn about 23% less fuel than the EPA estimate in pure highway driving.
IF the cruze can burn just 10% less fuel than EPA estimates while on the highway, that would result in a real world fuel economy of 3.61904 L/100 km (=65 MPG US = 78 MPG Imp). That would indeed be noteworthy! I'm eager to find out how the Cruze actually does in the real world!
