BMWs cost an arm and a leg (and a kidney) to maintain. My brother has a 320d and even a standard service is eyewatering. His tyres cost £250 a pop.
I have has FIATs (Fix It Again Tomorrow) and their reliability is non-existent. The good thing is, they rust like nobody's business so you won't have it for long.
I have only ever had one French car, many years ago, and it was so incredibly comfortable but badly engineered and rusted. At the time the French were forever going on strike so the car manufacturers had to use what they could get. In any given month they could use a variety of different brake and suspension parts, so if you needed a spare part from the dealer a chassis number was no good. You had to take the old part along and they would order one for you (assuming the maker wasn't on strike).
