Best hot hatch ever?

Possibly, after the latest updates.

One of the best hot hatches of all time, in various generations. Although this current one in trophy spec is ridiculous money, and in my opinion, a true hot hatch should always have a manual gearbox because hot hatches are all about controlling power and driver engagement. There's a reason why "drivers cars" like Porsches, demand a premium of several thousand pounds as a used buy Vs an auto transmission, despite the auto being more expensive to opt for when new.

Most everything is moving toward ridiculous money anymore. Sigh. If only I'd been born rich instead of so good looking.

I prefer buying older cars now, you can get some pretty decent metal for not alot of money now, and the best bit is that is you buy the right car, depreciation is close to zero, or in fact goes up in value. You get to own something special, enjoy it, and move it on, and it hasn't really cost anything. No brainer for me.

That is the smarter way to go and can work quite well, as you describe.
