Kind of agree with them in respect that modern 4 pots have become a little characterless, although the sacrifices have been worthy, personality replaced with refinement, reliability, durability and efficiency. I do still think turbocharged performance engines have more character though, as you can still make them pop and bang through the exhaust pipe. I've had around 5 three cylinder engined cars too, always been quite fond of the throaty thrum they produce. One two cylinder too, and driven but never owned a 5 cylinder, it was an Alfa, and sounded sportier than a diesel usually does thanks to the cylinder layout.
