Don't think there is such a thing as a secondhand bargain here in the UK at the moment. Guys are paying £8K for a 12-year-old Honda Jazz/Fit. Secondhand prices are through the roof.

Yes, I bought a car new from Mazda and sold it 8 months later for $2k more than I paid for it. Insanity, but I was glad to be on that side of it.

A month ago maybe. Second hand car prices are plummeting now, thanks to the supply issues finally being resolved. EVs are taking a big hit too, good time to buy a used one, as charging prices rocket and petrol prices drop.

I'm checking the price of my Boxster on a weekly basis before I lose too much. Expect "normal" prices in a few more weeks.

Supply issues being resolved? My daughter had a Ford Puma ordered for September delivery on a 72 plate. It has been pushed back and pushed back and now looks like it will be a 23 plate.

Yep, I know people who will have been waiting for a year in Feb. But the shortage of parts is coming to an end and the cars are finally getting through, that's why the prices are dropping and dropping fast. Plus the cost of living and interest rate hike means people don't have much spare cash, so demand has dropped too.

I suppose bargains are subjective so there will be some for some people. Not sure if I'll ever see bargains again. I remember in the late 60's when I was 12-13 and thinking about eventually getting a car there were dozens and dozens every day in the newspaper for $200 or less, around $1600 today.

Plenty of bargains to be had if you're in the right trade or know where to look. A friend of mine has 9 cars, the most expensive was £600. Most were free. One is a 2012 Mazda diesel which he paid £20 for. The week before it had x4 new tyres fitted. A lot have issues of course, but being a mechanic, people are keen to move them on for convenience and he's keen to fix them cheap being a mechanic. He has 5 series which the owner said wouldn't start. Turns out it had ran out of fuel. Yea people are that stupid.

It would be hard to argue with $20 (I don't know how to get a pound sign). Probably the biggest problem for a mechanic is getting around to working on their own stuff.
