maybe it is the blurring affect that the wheels cause. that way the savings are spread. it is a compounding affect like putting multiple stickers on.
lol

Pontiacs did have portholes in the 50's. If I remember correctly Pontiacs had 3 portholes. The worst case of customization I ever saw was a 3 foot tall wing on the roof of a rusty minivan. I'd love to see them take that in a parking garage.

these fake vents give people the excuse to drive fast all the time and waste gas. If you feel faster, you are faster huminaaaa
Anyhow I was not being bigoted, I don't think, just saying stuff in a joking manner.. I like comedy what can I say? Being able to express oneself is an American right.

Growing up as a kid in the '60s, I remember LOTS of '50s cars (including Pontiacs). I don't recall any with portholes, at least none that came from the factory that way.
Mid '50s Buicks had either 3 or 4 portholes depending on the size engine. Buick Specials and Supers (we had a '54 Super Riviera two door hardtop w/factory A/C when I was a kid) had three portholes...they had the smaller of the two V8s. The Century and Roadmaster had the larger engine, hence four portholes.

I guess you're right. I googled a bunch of 0's pontiacs, didn't find one with portholes. I guess I remembered wrong. I could have sworn the top of the line pontiacs had portholes.

They have had a resurgence in the past 10 years though. Buick was putting them on select models with select equipment. I remember when I bought my 98 GMC my dad was looking at a Buick in the showroom. He asked the salesman if the portholes made the car go faster (because the portholed car was a lot more expensive). It turned out on that model, the supercharged model had portholes, the non-supercharged model did not. In a round about way, the portholed cars went faster...

Weren't these holes inspired by the ones on WWII fighter planes, which I think were for exhaust?

They may have been inspired by planes, but I've heard from several sources that there was originally supposed to be lights that flashed inside them.

I think that on is supposed to resemble a nitrous purge valve system.
