Thoughts on this rear spoiler...

Looking at this rear spoiler for my 08 Escape hybrid... Would a spoiler like this one clean up the rear end areo , or make it worse? Its a genuine Ford accessory, so it won't be this gaudy thing that looks out of place...

Re: Thoughts on this rear spoiler...

Looks like it would help at least, and not hurt. It looks like it would encourage air to detach at the tip instead of rolling down the back window.... how much does it cost? I doubt with the size of it that it would ever pay for itself. It would have to solve a serious drag issue to pay for itself quickly. I'd think that ford would have put it on from the factory on all models if it helped aero that much.

Maybe google it and see if anyone has done the tuft testing already?

Its ~ $200. I'd only be interested if it would reduce the air pocket dragged behind the vehicle. If not, I'd leave it.

I agree with benfrogg. It would cost almost nothing if they put it on at the factory, and if it would benefit FE any then they would put it on the hybrid already. I suspect it might make things worse.

Maybe you could have someone else drive while you were the passenger and follow one in the rain.

Not a true aero assessment but it will give you an idea.

Buy it and test it out. Compare it to your baseline gaslog. If it doesn't work, remove it and sell it on e-bay. I'm thinking it will probably help. The VX had a rear spoiler similar to that one. Why would Honda have put one on there when it was trying to save all the weight possible on that car. It must have done something.

Re: Thoughts on this rear spoiler...

I don't see that spoiler making much of a difference but at least it looks classy.
