Messing with Flow Illustrator

I came up with this spoiler set up while messing with Flow Illustrator. I only shortened the nose of the Jetta to leave more room in the picture to see the wake. I probably got the angle of the windshield wrong. The idea is that the spoilers would be simple to make, and you could still see the tail lights through the spoilers.

My first question would be would it reduce drag or increase it by air flowing through the spoilers? And would the air really flow like this in the real world? What the movie doesn't show is side panels that would be holding the spoilers tapering in at 10*. I find one point in the movie interesting where the wake seems to stop waving up and down.

Here is a movie with out the spoilers to compare with:

Nice find.

Can it work accurately with half of a Jetta?

if you really want to see something crazy, here is something I found on basjoos (a member here) obviously using the same software.

here is a picture of his actual car, he actually got the sizing pretty good on the program.

Word the the wise:
Accuracy

Flow Illustrator is optimized for speed and robustness, with accuracy being traded in. Treat the movies as artist impressions. The artist is you.

Aero trailer

Having the Jetta shortened probably does effect accuracy, but like maximillian pointed out the program isn't entirely accurate anyway. I could try a bigger bitmap, but for now I'm sticking to the size they recommend. After more messing around with Kammbacks and partial boat tails, I think I'm going to make a boat tail trailer.
One of the reasons I don't like the Kammback idea for this car, is I have a WVO tank in the trunk. Building a Kammback that would hinge out of the way of the trunk lid would be a challenge. I'm in and out of the trunk a lot. A partial boat tail would have similar problems, since I would have to lean over it quite far.

Here is the boat tail trailer movie:

I like the idea of being able to use it on any smaller car with a trailer hitch too.

Unfortunately, the guy who made it basically says it's unsuitable for simulation purposes. It neglects too many small scale effects. It is pretty cool, though.

I made a 512x256 bitmap with my car scaled to 300 pixels long and it had plenty of room for everything. Took about two minutes to generate a 10 second movie.
