4 forum users claiming superb economy from a 1.5 diesel, and three of them Renault engines. Must be the perfect size diesel engine for optimum fuel efficiency!

Had to make a trip yesterday all country roads hot day 22 C well hot for us, held back
most of the time by slower traffic so rarely got above 50 mph ScanGuage reported 92 UK
that's 76 US MPG, the ScanGuage is usually around 1 or 2 MPG out I refueled it on getting
home as it was on the last bar and I don't like playing a game of dares with a Diesel fuel
system, and got 75 UK MPG the ScanGuage was reporting 74 it had done 740 miles on the tank
I got 9 ish gallons in so it had about a gallon left enough for at least another 70 miles,
Only thing different on this trip was that I was one up I rarely drive the car on my
own normally using a bike or scooter dreading if this this car dies my last did 28 mpg
UK on a good day.

Excellent figures. I find being held below 50 mph makes a significant improvement to my mpg. Yesterday I had a trip into Edinburgh, through Edinburgh, then back to Kirkcaldy and my ScanGauge returned 60.8 mpg for the 75 mile round trip. I too am single crewed at the moment as SWMBO is in hospital (hence the trip). Not bad from a petrol powered car.

Excellent for a petrol, it's the way I will likely go when my Diesel dies,
don't think there's any point in running a diesel with a dpf so petrol it's likely
to be.

Your petrol might have an exhaust filter by then.

Yep GPFs or gasoline particulate filters have snuk under the radar unlike their diesel equivalents. The updated GTi has higher C02 emissions and fuel consumption, not to mention a drop of 10 bhp, although torque is higher probably due to a different software map on the ecu, so the 0-60 time remains unchanged. Not sure if the higher fuel consumption/emissions is due to the different test cycle though...

Thought I'd read the article again but get a 404 error from the link now.
