Mahindra Pick Ups

I don't see but a few posts about this company, none of which are recent. I for one am excited about the possibilty of a small diesel pick-up in N America. Mahindra keeps delaying the launch but has told dealers 1st quarter of 2010 would be it. Guess we will see.

Mahindra may be trying to beat Ford to the market. Thr Ranger's replacement is code-named the T 6. It will have both a turbo direct injected engine and a diesel option. Should get mileage in the high 20s, assuming they gear it right. Due in 2011.

I'm really interested in the Ecoboost tdi engine. I hate the diesel fumes on cold mornings.

does anyone know what they are going to cost? maybe even a range?

there was a rumor (and has been for years) of the big 3 putting smaller diesel engines in the 1500 series trucks.

I noticed that it is an indian company. I wonder if the price will be lower because of that (I wonder if they have anything to do with TATA)

I think that the 236 ft/lbs of torque would handle anything I wanted to throw at it.

Probably not. The big problem in pricing will be the 'chicken tax'; The 25% tariff on imported trucks.

Sludgy, got a link? Rumor has had it that Ford was going to put a diesel in either the Ranger or the F150 next year, every year for a decade.

25% blows, maybe they will end up just building it here if it does well.

I heard about a 4 cyl that was going in a dodge ram with about 190hp and 400ft/lbs (maybe it was a small 6 cyl) that was about 2 years ago. there again "coming out next year" several of us dodge guys were excited about it.

I like the idea of a small diesel in a truck. I really like the big ones (2500 series) but just can't justify spending that kind of money on a toy.

I wasn't aware of that.

Ok, so reading up on it, other manufacturers have practiced two options for circumventing the tax:

1. Assemble the vehicle in the US. Mahindra is considering it: http://wot.motortrend.com/6575373/in...uvs/index.html

2. Add seats to the bed (like the Subaru Brat had) that the consumers or a pre-delivery laborer can remove: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125357990638429655.html
