Vehicles with cheapest parts cost

Someone posted this once before, but I can't find the thread. It's a web page that compares parts cost between two vehicles:

Does it seem accurate?

Can anyone find any OBDII vehicle with significantly cheaper parts than a 1997 Ford Ranger? How about one available with a manual transmission? The only one I've found that's about the same is a 1997 Chevrolet S10.

Parts for the 1996 CHEVROLET C1500 PICKUP 5.7L cost only 84% of what parts for a 1997 FORD RANGER 3.0L cost.


Parts for the 1996 CHEVROLET CAVALIER 2.2L cost only 94% of what parts for a 1997 FORD RANGER 3.0L cost.


Parts for the 1981 BUICK REGAL LIMITED 3.8L cost only 75% of what parts for a 1997 FORD RANGER 3.0L cost.

I was going to say the cav but beware the fuel pump.

it comes in an assembly and runs about $400 (at least that is what I have been told)

Put a fuel pump in a 2.2L Sunfire a few weeks ago, it was $180. I believe its the same pump as in the Cav.

not sure if yours would work but here is what napa has.

they had one for $315ish and one for over $400. this one was OEM Replacement

buddy of mine told me never to replace one with a junk yard part...errr..except if you have a cavalier.

mine sucks because it is an assembly. you can maybe replace the pump alone but everyone wants to sell you the assy. luckily, mine has done me pretty good

I think all modern vehicles get their fuel pump replaced as an assembly and they're all $150-500.

The parts maybe cheaper for those vehicles but how often are you going to have th change them?

Yeah, the sender & pump was integrated on my truck as well I think it cost me $600 to replace if I remember correctly.

It's tough to quantify. The small amount of vague data available doesn't even begin to tell the whole story. All we can go on is personal experience and study of existing vehicles (for example, looking at them on Craigslist to see what condition they're sold in at what mileage, and how much they cost with X amount of miles).
