Re: Read my spark plug...

I was sure it was fuel starvation, that's exactly what it felt like, but it went away when I did the thing with the vacuum lines...unless somehow the manifold vacuum was interfering with the carburetor through its vacuum connection (again, if the plastic thing isn't doing its job right), but I don't see that causing that symptom.

Re: Read my spark plug...

Going back to the anti-seize choices, I wound up buying some of this:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web..._7160116-P_x_x

Interesting difference at Napa?

https://napaonline.com/Catalog/Catal...282487282&An=0

It specifies on the back of what I purchased:
Quote:
"Use in spark plug installation on aluminum cylinder head-equipped engines." ... Use on: Spark Plug Threads when installing in aluminum or cast iron heads.
Appears that there isn't much difference between the one I have and the Napa product that says "Copper" on the front? Is this because Permatex/Napa have re-bandaged the product for those stores?

Re: Read my spark plug...

Is spark knock the same as pinging/knocking in general?

Re: Read my spark plug...

Spark knock is the same as pinging, but different from a rod bearing knock or main bearing knock.

A result of fouled plugs or severe carbon deposits around electrode/combustion chamber? Or could it also be a result of ignition related components?

Re: Read my spark plug...

Detonation can result from fouled plugs, severe carbon deposits, overheating, low octane gas in a high compression engine, a bunch of other things I don't remember, and of course it can DEFINITELY come from messed up ignition system or incorrect ignition timing.

I don't know if you'd call it "spark knock" when it's not caused by the ignition system, even though it's essentially the same process and symptom.

Incorrect ignition timing (caused by vacuum advance not hooked up right) is what caused my spark knock.

Re: Read my spark plug...

No, in the name of the science of fuel economy I'm risking finishing this tank before I fix it. This looks like it's going to be my best tank ever. I'll know tonight.

Before I leave work I think I'm going to change that distributor vacuum hookup which should give me the retardation I need.

Re: Read my spark plug...

Well it was raining too much to go under the hood wearing my work clothes. I'll do it tomorrow or something,

I was expecting this tank to be a big improvement over the last tank but it's about the same, slightly improved.
