Most modern tyres are directions so to do a cross-rotation you have to remove the tyre from the wheel and turn it around. If I swap tyres from the offside to the nearside they will be very inefficient and could end up more worn. Unless you want all the hassle it is best just to swap front to rear. Unless of course, they are a different tyre size!

I have only had one set of one direction tires out of all the sets on my cars. It is bad for those tires to be running the wrong way, so do check before rotating.

That one direction set wasn't OEM to any of the Toyotas I've had, yet the owner's manual for all only call for rotating front to back. Ford, Chevy, and Subaru all call for a cross rotation.

In the UK it is unusual now to get top-quality tyres that are not directional. Mind you, handling is of far higher importance here as evidenced by the handling of cars sold here by US manufacturers.

I don't think too many tires sold here are directional but maybe I just don't know which ones are. They don't have obvious indicators looking at the tread pattern anyway.

Tyres sold here have an arrow on the sidewall.

I guess I'll have to study tire sidewalls more closely. May have to make a field trip to Discount Tire.

Tells you which way they should rotate forward. If you mounted them backwards, hydroplaning and wet braking could have fatal consequences.
