What is the car? that'll make a difference in how to fix it.
I've heard of cleaning a cat by disconnecting a spark plug and letting fuel through the cylinder. it'll hit the cat and burn there instead causing a lot of heat buildup that can burn off carbon from the oil consumption. the problem is if you do it too long you can melt the cat and then you REALLY need a new one.
