Angry my catalytic converter

my car wastes alot of oil and i lose power when im in a hill ....i took it for a check up and they told me it was my catalytic converter its like 1300 to fix thats to much right what else can i do ...plus my engine light goes and comes every other week...i need help please

They are full of crap. Oil consumption has absolutely nothing to do with the catalytic converter.

Oil consumption can kill a cat and muck it up causing your power loss but if you don't fix the reason for consumption you'll be right back there getting it replaced again.

You need to hook up a code reader to the car to see what code it is setting when the check engine light comes on. The light doesn't have to be on when you check the codes. The code will be stored in the ECU for a certain number of starts after the light goes out. The problem may or may not be related to the catalytic converter.

What is the car? that'll make a difference in how to fix it.

I've heard of cleaning a cat by disconnecting a spark plug and letting fuel through the cylinder. it'll hit the cat and burn there instead causing a lot of heat buildup that can burn off carbon from the oil consumption. the problem is if you do it too long you can melt the cat and then you REALLY need a new one.

hmm well theres no easy way to fix burning oil. somethings worn out seal wise or the rings are stuck.

what kinda car we talkin about here?
