Just based on this statement, this is going to take more pressure and/or volume than "on the cheap" can probably accomodate, I think this project is a bust:
"at 3600 psi, compressed natural gas has about one-third as much energy as gasoline, about 44,000 BTU per unit volume"
A 5 gallon bbq tank of propane would work just fine, but propane is easier to coax into a liquid than natural gas.
If I figure right, even at 112 psi, I would need 20 bbq tanks to hold the energy equivelant of 1 gallon of gas
