Re: 87 CRX HF fuel mileage

Thanks Erik... makes me remember what I once learned about how to eat an elephant (one bite at a time). Lots going on here. Some things in the diagram I'm not sure are on my car. ie crank angle sensor? Just drove 370mi round trip and it ran like a sewing machine. Eventually I'll figure it out. In mean time have to carry my tool box
I also have just found some documentation on my 87. It's not exactly the same as yours. hmmm? I'd send it to you but I don't see how you attached the file?

The crank angle sensor is in the distributor.

I just took a picture of the paper and posted the picture.

[QUOTE=Erik;166544]The crank angle sensor is in the distributor.

I see it on my documentation now. That's an FI distributor. I am carburetted. And its definitely old school right? I mean nobody senses crankshaft angle by looking at the camshaft anymore do they? All things considered it should be the same... guess I'm splitting hairs.
Anyway, I think I'm making headway. I honestly think I had a bad fuel filter. Small pieces kept clogging the small primary pilot jet. Crossing my fingers. Just drove my first 500 trouble free miles since I purchased it in Feb. After another 1000 miles of trouble free driving I'm gonna put an HF transmission back in it. I hear they are pretty "sluggish" with that final drive but should help my situation. I travel lots of hwy miles.
Thanks again Erik.

You are welcome. Please start a gas log or otherwise let us know how the transmission swap affects your mpg.

Re: 87 CRX HF fuel mileage

I have kept a mileage record since I got it so I transfered that to my gas log. Things have settled down. I've gone 750+ miles with no problems (fuel filter must have been culprit). Not sure if I can get to the trans swap soon, I have a bathroom I'm remodeling and my wife says its priority.
we'll see... I'm expecting it to help alot. I'll take a guess and say it'll add 3-4mpg. It's a random guess... more would be better.
