Re: 500k
I'll be praying that your family will have peace in this very difficult time.

Re: 500k
Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers as we work our way through this difficult time. It seems things haven't been on our side lately, my father in law passed away in Aug. 2009, my dad passed away June 2010, my brother hit a cow leaving him in the trauma unit at Vanderbilt in April 2011 and our son passed away in May 2011. Our family has had 3 deaths and one very serious accident within the last two years. Especially remember my 20 year old son, this has been very hard on him losing both his grandfathers and now his only brother in such a short period of time.

Re: 500k
My uncle has an old 88 Escort that he bought 12 years ago for $800 and has drove the piss out of it every since. I don't know how many miles are on it, but it just won't quit. However, you don't see alot of these older Escorts on the road anymore. I may see one around here once every couple months or so.

I bought this one in '93 with 146K miles on it for $500. I think I need to get a few more miles/years out of it to be sure I got my money's worth. I bought another '88 Escort about 3 years ago with 78K miles on at the time and gave $800. for it, but it was in near perfect condition inside and out (previously owned by an old lady). I currently own 5 Escorts, 2-'88's, 1-'94, 1-'97 and 1-'02.

Re: 500k
Having had a Mercury Topaz that blew up at 140K with religious oil changes. I'm glad your past 500K. My toyota 2.4 truck did 600K and Celica 2.2 did 400K and they were used as delivery vehicles.
My 02 Foucs is a far cry from reliability. The factory manual warns you not to scratch the head or the block due to thin metal castings that will result in cracks at the scratch. They located the PVC collector box behind the cat, at 40K the box was crystalized oil.
At 100K it has 15 oil leaks, constant PVC troubles and blow by that had me fabricate a second vent to get the pressureout of the engine.
The car is the equivalent of a Bic lighter, when it runs out of gas, throw it away.

Re: 500k
Odd. That is not typical of people I've talked to with Foci.

Re: 500k
My sister has a 1st generation Focus, and my father has a 2nd generation Focus. Aside from the fact that I hate driving my sister's 1st gen car (probably because its an automatic), mechanically its sound. Dad's 2nd gen Focus is a blast to drive though, with the 5 speed its as fun as driving a go-kart. Dad hasn't had any problems with his car either.

I think people actually drive small, cheap cars harder.
