unrealistic mileage claim
says i have input an unrealistic number for kms driven between fill ups
I have tried to input my mileage(1703.2 kms), but it shows an error, says it is unrealistic. My last tank was 1681kms, the site accepted that. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

We have a hard limit of 1,000 miles (1,609 km) per fuel-up. 99% of fuel-ups that reach that many miles are a data entry error. So we have the limit there to keep people from making errors on entry. Usually it's an extra digit, or a transposed number in an odometer reading.
How big is the tank on your Passat? Are you combining several partial fuel-ups into one? Is that a normal entry?

It is a 70 litre tank. This time i was able to put 70.871 litres in. Definitely not combining partial fill ups. If you check my last fill ups they are very close. I know at least one of the fill ups was over 1000 miles. I try drive to get the highest possible fuel mileage.

Is this hard limit a new thing? I have posted two fill ups in excess of 1000 miles.

No, it's not new. We can move the limit up another 500 miles or so. I've added it to our to do list.

Thank you for adding "move the limit up another 500 miles" to your to do list. I am sure with the launch of a new site, there are always bugs. Would you be able to ballpark when the fix will be done? Quick question,if the hard limit was always 1000 miles, how was I able to post two in excess of that? No big deal, just curious.
Thanks again,
Ron

Not sure, Ron. Could be a difference between the website, the mobile site, or SMS fuel-ups. We've moved up the hard limit in the past it could be that it was moved up in one spot and not another.
It's a holiday weekend here in the US, so we'll get that change in next week.

A few years ago I managed to get 3 tanks over 1000 miles on my old Passat (which isn't on the fuelly site because it has been scrapped since then).
Rather than removing the limit entirely, would it be an idea to have a confirmation step?
i.e., '1234 miles is a lot for one tank, please confirm that it is accurate (Y/N). Select N if you want to edit your tank figures.'

FYI that was on a 60L tank (refuelled by around 64 litres each time - vented & brimming to vapour!). Had to use engine-off P&G to get that much out of the tanks.

Yeah, I agree a confirmation step would be the best long term solution.
