On 11/10/12 the 12 volt battery was replaced. I didn't notice they had taken the car off "ECO," which is the mode in which I always drive the car, until sometime after the Christmas Day trip to the mountain, probably a few days before the first fill-up in January. Interestingly, the mpg were way down during that time.
