A 302.2 mile road trip to Grapevine Canyon, Kingman, and Chloride (includes Dealership visit). About 19 miles off road Christmas Tree Pass, and Purcell Murals. Conservative driving. Always have poor MPG going South on US 95 to Searchlight. No winds going, strong cross and headwinds on the return trip US 93, and a waste of time and fuel using Interstate 11.

A 408.3 mile drive from Green River UT to Vegas at night. Interstate speed limits maintained 75 and 80mh. Strong head winds on I-15 to Vegas, all the way. AC, and CC used, no traffic, all freeway. Expecting horrible gas mileage due to high RPMs (2900 to 4500 RPM) on the freeway to maintain speedlimits or lower. Especially going up long steep hills (many of them).

A 127.7 mile trip from Colorado National Monument to Green River UT. All freeway, no traffic, AC and Cruse Control used. Maintained speed limits of 75 and 80mph. Some strong crosswind and head winds.

A 500.3 mile trip to Fruita CO to start a road trip at Colorado National Monument. Early morning drive to noon. 3 stops for restroom and a fill up 9 hour drive. No AC no traffic, cool temps, strong tail winds from Vegas on I-15. Cruse Control used to maintain speed limit of 65 to 70mph on interstate where speed limit is 75mph in AZ and CO, and 80mph in Utah on interstates.

This mileage includes a trip to Smog Check, DMV, Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, and the Hoover Dam. Huge elevation changes at Spring Mountains, all speed limits maintained, AC and CC used. Mild winds, no traffic, hot temps all morning drives before sunrise (except the DMV and Smog Check).

A 321.0 mile trip from Buttonwillow to Vegas to end the PCH road trip. Assertive driving to maintain speed limits. Cruse control used on hills and flat areas. No traffic, hot temps crossing the desert. AC used all the way except up steep hills. No speeding, 65 and 70mph (+/- 4mph). High RPMs at times 4300+ to climb steep hills at 70mph in 4th gear. Paddle shifters used to hold 5th gear going up hills and 6th gear on flat areas. Again, surprised at the MPG. I was expecting 28mpg. Nevertheless, a strong tail wind 25 to 35 mph on the flat areas of the desert. Temps range from the mid 90s to 107 range. Hottest at Baker CA. I suspect driving conservatively I would have got about 40+ MPG. Nevertheless, not bad mileage to get there 15 to 20 min faster at speed limits.

A 283.0 mile trip from Buttonwillow CA to Morro Rock, Cambria, and back. Speed limits maintained. High RPMs going up steep hills to maintain speed limits. Some cross wind and tail wind going and strong tail winds on the way back to Buttonwillow. AC and cruse control used when little elevation changes. Temps cooler on the PCH. Hotter 100 degrees from Paso Robles to Buttonwillow. Not conservative driving, kept up with flow of traffic on the interstates and highways. Again, surprised at the MPG, was expecting a lot less in the 27mpg range.

A 316.0 mile drive from Vegas to Buttonwillow via Arvin CA. Night drive, at speed limits, no wind, warm tems in the high 90s from Vegas to Barstow. And high 80s from Barstow to Arvin. AC and cruse control used except going up steep long hills. Speed limits maintained (70 and 65mph tops on the Interstate and highways.

A 194.9 mile drive from Ft Irwin to Vegas. Strong tail winds 25+ MPH. Speed limit all the way, almost no stops, no traffic, and cruse control and AC used except up Halloran Summit, and Mountain Pass. RPMs from 2800 to 4500 in 4th and 3rd gear to climb long steep hills at 70mph. I expected MPG to be 27. But the tail winds really make the big difference.

A 451.5 mile night drive from Jackpot NV to Vegas, to complete a 30 hour 1376.3 mile road trip. Cool temps in the high elevations, no AC used. Several stops for short breaks during the AM. Drove the US 93 to Ely, US 6, to 318, and back on US 93 to the Apex and home. No traffic, no AC, no cruse control. Big elevation changes from 2100ft to 6800ft. A lot of 1200ft elevation changes on the 318, and less steep elevation changes on US 93 from Crystal Springs to Vegas. Mostly down hill from Ely (6800ft) to Vegas (1800ft). Some 20mph cross winds, and some tail winds. One of the best MPG I had on 85 octane from Jackpot NV fuel. I often get crappy fuel economy on the US 93 due to head winds.

A 429.0 mile drive from Winnemucca to Rome OR, Marsing ID, Twin Falls ID, and Jackpot NV. A day drive through the rolling hills and country roads of South Oregon and Idaho. AC used in the later hours of the drive. No traffic, conservative driving. Moderate elevation changes from 2300ft to 5400ft.

A 495.8 mile drive from Vegas to Winnemucca via US-95 & I-80. Night Drive from midnight to 9 AM. Warm temps, AC and Cruse Control used. Light winds, no traffic. About 9 miles dirt road at Alkali. Speed limit 80mph on the I-80. Maintained speeds 68mph. Kept RPMs at 2K for most of the drive.

A 315.0 mile drive from Buttonwillow to Vegas to end the PCH road trip. Mild tail winds from Buttonwillow to Barstow getting stronger to Vegas on the I-15. Temps from high 90s dropping to mid 80s during the midnight drive from Barstow to Vegas. AC and cruse control used except going up and down long steep hills. Just missed the massive earth quake in Ridgecrest CA which is about 50 miles North of Kramer Junction and HWY 58.

Mild tail winds on the 101 and 33. Some traffic on the PCH near Big Sur. Slow winding roads, a lot of elevation changes. Temps on the PCH low 70s with light winds from the NW.

A 305.2 mile drive from Vegas to Arvin to start a road trip to the PCH. This includes a drive to the dealership for oil change and tire rotation a few days prior. Strong head winds on I-15 to Barstow, and mild head winds to Arvin on the 58. Slow driving going up hills, AC and cruse control used, temps in the 80s and 90s during the midnight drive.

Milder cross winds (25-30mph) from Page to Hurricane AZ. Strong head winds (25-30mph) from Hurricane to Vegas on the I-15. Slow driving on the Interstate and hwy, keeping RPMs below 2000, and following semi trucks.

A 52.8 mile trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to do 1/4 mi drag racing with the factory stock 2017 limited. 8 runs on the 1/4 mile strip, ET ranged from 19.133 to 19.583. Now I know why people don't post Drag Racing Crosstreks online. I'm no drag race driver, my Reaction Time or RT ranged starting the night with 0.905 and getting faster with 0.613. One thing is consistan, the ET. Temps was 96 with sunset, and 93 by time I left. A lot of idling, and move and stop all night. The computer mpg stated 45mpg, when I got there, and 25mpg when I left the track. This is my worst MPGs ever for this Crosstrek.

A 281.5 mile trip to Mojave National Preserve for more night photography. Explored the 4X4 road from Midhills Campground to Hole in the Wall area. About 19 miles total dirt/gravel road. A lot of washboard up in the higher elevation canyons. AC used until sunset. Temps in the 80s to 100 in the lower elevations. No traffic at night. 15 min stop and go in Vegas during the daylight.

A 318.7 mile road trip to Mojave National Preserve. Back road on Cedar Canyon, Wild Horse, and Black Canyon dirt and gravel roads. Some 4X4 areas and campgrounds explored. Then to Mitchell Caverns (Closed), then back home. About 32 miles of dirt gravel road and trails, some soft dirt, and a lot of washboard in the higher elevation's canyon areas. Elevation about 5500 ft to 3200 in the hills area.

2 Trips to Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge for 426.5 miles. About 16 miles off road, washboard and sand/dust Alamo rd and Corn Creek. About 8 miles on gravel washboard and broken pavement. Strong head winds and cross winds gong to on day 1, and strong tail winds going to on day 2. Vice versa on the way back. Warm temps, AC used all day except climbing hills. No traffic.
